Meet the jury - Petteri Taalas

Prof. Petteri Taalas is the Director General of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) since 2002, he holds a PhD Degree (Helsinki University, Meteorology, 1993). During the period of 2005-2007 he worked as the Director at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Before his position as the Director General, he concentrated his research and publication activities in research of the Arctic and Antarctic, global change, ozone and UV radiation, interaction of the atmospheric chemistry and the climate and for the monitoring of the composition of the atmosphere e.g. by using satellites. Prof. Taalas has been leading several international and domestic research and development programs and projects. He is a member in several decision-making bodies both on national and international level: e.g. he is a Member of the Executive Council of the WMO, Chairman of the European Weather Satellite Organization EUMETSAT, Member of Board for Global Framework for Climate Services, Chairman of the National Committee of Finland at the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change), Chairman of the University of Eastern Finland, Member of the Climate Panel of Finland and Member of the Board of Fortum Energy Corporation.
