In the domain of research, winning the Helsinki Challenge gave team NEMO the opportunity to build a prototype of the sense sleeve. It is an instrument that enables transmitting emotions without seeing the other person. The sleeve has small motors that translate emotional states into touches. “The sleeves help us explore whether a new sense of touch in digital interaction could be born. It is both a research tool and a potential product,” team leader Katri Saarikivi summarises. Read more »
Tutkimuksen saralla Helsinki Challenge -voitto antoi NEMO-tiimille muun muassa mahdollisuuden rakentaa prototyypin tunnehihasta. Se on päällepuettava väline, jonka avulla pystytään aistimaan toisen tunteita näkemättä tätä. Hihassa on pieniä moottoreita, jotka muuttavat tunnetietoa kosketuksiksi. ”Hihojen avulla tutkitaan, voisiko digitaaliseen vuorovaikutukseen syntyä uusi tunneaisti. The €375,000 prize for the science-based idea competition Helsinki Challenge was divided between two teams. The winner was NEMO – Natural Emotionality in Digital Interaction, which received €250,000, while the runner-up, Biodiversity Now, received €125,000. The prize money is intended for realising the team’s idea. Read more »
